Our family began Jeanne's Rock & Jewelry  in 1972, because it was fun. We all enjoyed learning about rocks, minerals, fossils, gems, lapidary, etc. We've enjoyed getting to know customer/friends that liked these things too.

In 1972, we began selling our rock jewelry and rock crafts at local art shows.  Then we became regulars at the flea market with a small single table. Within a short time we grew, and opened our First Permanent store. It was a Boxcar (railroad car) at Houston's largest flea market on Westpark. We were open three days a week.

In 1976, we opened our 1500 sq.ft. store at 6069 Bissonnet in Houston, Texas. We were in this location for ten years. Our business grew a lot. We needed more space!

In 1986, we moved into our 3000 sq.ft. store at 5420 Bissonnet. Many of our out of town customers and worldwide suppliers were confused as to how we could be on the same street (and by the address, closer to the center of Houston), yet now our address was Bellaire, Texas. Bellaire is a small city within Houston. It manages to keep that small town charm even though it is surrounded by the fourth largest city in the United States.

Our Bellaire store continued to do well and grow (moved a wall and added another 600 sq.ft. in 1996). The out of state wholesale shows that we had been attending since 1989 were also doing well. These shows brought year round mailorders. Busy, Busy!

In 2007, we made the biggest change for our family business. We closed our Bellaire store. The most important quality for our  business has always been that it be family owned and family run. As both our Bellaire store and our Trade Show business grew, we did not have enough family members to continue both. We made the decision to close our beloved store that we spent more than 36 years to build.   It has been a sad time.

We are now going a new direction.  We are now adding more wholesale trade shows to our schedule, working to improve this website, and filling mailorders. Our family business is different than when we had our retail store - but it is still our family business and we're still having fun.
